In this short tutorial, I’ll show how to customize Metabar, a sidebar displaying metadata included in KDE. You can load it by displaying the navigation panel in Konqueror (View > Show navigation panel, or F9) and selecting the Metabar icon. We will style this bar with some basic CSS, so your desktop gets more personalized.
In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to set up transparent, pseudo-transparent in fact, window decorations (title bars and window borders) in KDE. Using Crystal and KDE, it’s very easy to set up a fresh and unique desktop environment, with a touch of transparency.
I’m running Ubuntu! It’s great. The installation took only about 35 minutes, and that on a super-slow computer (350MHz) which had to partition a 120GB disk. Ubuntu didn’t recognize my wireless modem during installation, but when I activated wlan0 in the Network Settings, everything worked just fine.
Over the weekend, I will be switching to Linux, Ubuntu to be exact. Previous Sunday, I bought a new computer (which is BTW super-fast!) and I’ll convert the old computer to Ubuntu.
