From February 18th until February 26th 2008, this blog was down. The next day, my host, Clawz.com, told me that they plan to stop offering the free (ad-supported) hosting which I’ve been enjoying for some years now. I have 30 days to move out.
That means that soon, this blog will be moving. I don’t know to where yet, but I’m currently not able to pay for it, mainly because I’m still a student and because I’m living in Europe and paying in dollars is too tedious to do regularly. So, I’m stuck searching for a free PHP host, that preferably shows it won’t stop providing its free hosting in the near future. It’s also possible I further work on Chameleon, to then convert this blog to Chameleon. Then, I would need Rails hosting, which is even harder to find than good PHP hosting.
The question is, regarding the small amount of blog posts I publish here, is it even worth still maintaining a blog? And do I need to host it myself, or should I just switch to a hosted blogging platform such as Blogger or WordPress.com? A hosted blogging platform could cause me to lose some identity, if I have one. But it also has many advantages, not the least being that I don’t have to upgrade my blog manually, and that I don’t have to care for the server.
Anyway, apologies for the downtime, and when my blog moves, I’ll certainly let you know.
UPDATE: Update your bookmarks now, this blog has moved to http://jw00000.wsnw.net/blog/, and is now hosted by Websites Network. Currently it’s still in a test drive, but more info will come soon.
UPDATE 2: I changed hosts again now to X10Hosting, since Websites Network seems to have a hell of a lot of downtime. This blog is now located at http://jw.x10hosting.com/blog/.
